Food Maps!
Instead of the usual listed articles from food websites that aren’t based in or have even been to Philly, I’ve decided to begin a series of working maps to better and more easily recommend my favorite spots to you. Instead of reading a long-form article, I’ve made these maps for you to open quickly and even save onto your phone for a quick reference when you’re looking for a particular type of dish. So far, there are only three maps on here, but I’ll be adding more as we go. Enjoy!
Drunk Food
It’s 2 AM. You’re a little drunk.
Actually, you’re very drunk.
… You’re shitfaced.
It’s time to stumble out of the bar into the street and drunkenly convince your friends that the night is far from over. The bars may be closed, Tinder may not be giving you too many matches, and your fuck-buddy may or may not be ignoring your texts, but why should that ruin your night? The night is warm, you’re not ready to go to bed alone, and The Republican is still serving drinks anyway. You make the ever-so-eliquant argument to your friends that night is still young and God damn it, you just want one more drink while getting a lap dance on a sofa that’s older than the girl who’s giving it to you. “Trust me, dude.” You slur to your friend who’s still on the fence. “This place is legit.”
But first, tacos.
No, wait… Cheesesteaks.
No, Chinese!
If you’re going to go on any further, you’re going to need some greasy, fatty, alcohol-absorbing grub to keep you from passing out on an impromptu stripping stage/coffee table, but you and your friends can’t decide on where to go. Fortunately for you guys, I have an enormous amount of experience on this very subject and made an idiot-proof map of where you should stumble to once your bar tab is paid depending on your location with my personal favorites along with location and hour info and pictures! With its recent influx of food trucks and street-side food stands (not to mention that the warm weather alone completely justifies you having “just one more drink”), drunk food has never been more accessible to Philadelphians. Here are the spots I’ve come to know as my drunken sanctuaries.
Enjoy!!
Hangover Food
Did the drunk food map help you out last night? Good!
Now you’re hungover! It’s time to put the pieces back together and try to nurture your body back to health. You chug an entire gallon of water and quickly realize that it’s not cutting it. You need something more than water to soak up the alcohol that’s still in your stomach. Something greasy. Something filling. Something with bacon.
Fortunately for you, we have just the right map to help you decide on where to eat when your fighting off remnants from last night. The restaurants on this map are a collection of spots that have time and time again brought me back from certain death with their revitalizing, savory foods as well as restaurants recommended by some of my fellow Philly food bloggers. On it you’ll find a wide variety of food spots and services that we’ve come to know as our hangover saviors.
Of course, like our popular Drunk Food map, this is an ongoing work which will be updated as we find new places and receive recommendations from you on our contact page.
Enjoy, and get well soon!
Know of a joint for us to check out? This map will be constantly updated so make sure to send me a message on the “Contact” page above with your recommendation. I’ll add it to the map once I try it out!
Pizza
Philly has always had their pizza on point, but for some reason the rest of the country hasn’t come to terms with our reputation. While other’s preach about New York and Chicago as the end-all-be-all pizza Meccas of the country, our thriving food scene has churned out some of the best and most original pizza spots around. Use this map to find some quick recommendations in your area and keep checking in as we’ll be updating this map throughout the year!
And before you send me that snarky email or DM for not including your hood’s pizza spot, keep in mind that this is a WORKING map that will be updated accordingly. For now, these are the tops spots that come to my mind when talking pizza.
